The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of 'remedicative' drugs in case of emergency. The drug has previously tested positive in the country.
President Trump made the announcement on Friday, along with Dan O'Day, chief executive of Gilead Science, a pharmaceutical company, according to the New York Post.
Earlier, US scientists informed the White House about the effectiveness of remedicative. 'Remedicivir' was being used in critically ill patients after evidence of the effectiveness of this drug as a clinical trial. However, with the approval of the FDA, doctors in the United States will be able to prescribe this drug from now on.
While approving the remediation, President Trump said he had talked to people in charge of the White House Coronavirus Task Force about using the drug.
In addition to task force members Anthony Foussi and Deborah Brix, FDO chief Stephen Hahn has agreed to approve the drug.
The United States tops the list for coronavirus infections and deaths. According to Johns Hopkins University, there are about 1.1 million infected and more than 64,000 deaths in the United States so far.
